Otoplasty (Ear Pinning)

Surgery for protruding ears can have a great benefit to the patient.  Children are the most likely candidates for otoplasty to avoid the psychological impact of teasing in grade school. Even if the ears are only mildly distorted, decreased self-esteem and poor adaptation to school may occur.  However, this surgery can be performed at any age after the ears have reached full size, around five to six years of age. Adults are also good candidates and can achieve significant improvement in the size and shape of their ears.  With otoplasty, Dr. Meier shapes the ears to be in proportion to the size and shape of the face and head through well hidden incisions in the back of the ear.
